In 2011, at 18, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Even though I'm smiling in this photo, my mind was racing—calculating the extra insulin I'd need for that triple chocolate fudge cake, wondering if my blood sugar would spike later, mentally preparing for the finger pricks every few hours.

This is my daily reality. Carb counting every bite. Testing my blood sugar 6+ times a day. The ritual of drawing up insulin with every meal. Explaining to people that no, I can't just "eat less sugar" to cure myself.

Everyone in the T1D community gets it.

The anxiety of a high reading you can't explain. Insurance battles over supplies you literally need to survive. That sinking feeling when you realize you forgot your glucose tabs. The burnout that comes from managing a full-time medical condition 24/7. The fake smile when someone says "at least it's not cancer" or asks if you can "grow out of it."

Most brands don't get this. They show perfect diabetics with perfect control living perfect lives. They're designed by people who've never had to explain why their insulin costs more than rent, or why they can't just "try cinnamon" instead.
